NIACINAMIDE THE ORDINARY REVIEW

The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum is made up of a high concentration (10%) of Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, and additional Zinc (1%). The formulation is oil-free, alcohol-free and silicone-free. It claims to reduce the appearance of blemishes and congestion , whilst balancing natural sebum levels. It’s one of deceim’s best seller and its super hyped.

Does it work?

As much as I wanted to love this product, my skin just couldn’t take it anymore. Since using this product for 1.5 weeks, I started to have super clogged pores and tiny little pimples all over my face causing very textured skin- something I hadn’t suffered from for a long time.  Just this morning, those clogged pores began turning into cysts on my left cheek so I’m talking about underground pimples with no head. Those super annoying ones. It’s frustrating because I really thought EVERYONE loved this product but once I started sharing my experience on my stories I was inundated with many other similar experiences from you guys (swipe to see a few). So thank you for sharing them with me and making me feel like my skin isn’t strange haha.

It’s unfortunate that it didn’t work for me, and it may be because of the clogging zinc or high niacinamide percentage but that doesn’t mean the brand is terrible because I’ve only tried ONE of their products. In my cabinet I still have their retinol and hyaluronic acid to try.  The Ordinary is known to be super affordable and effective (some of you guys on here also said it was your holy grail, just shows how different everyone’s skin can be) but nonetheless I’m willing to give their other products another go at a later time and hopefully I could recommend them to you in the future, only time will tell haha

Note: The ordinary messaged me personally and said that purging is to be expected and it should take up to a month for my skin to get used to the formula. However, personally I believe purging should only happen in already acne prone areas not new areas that’s never broken out (such as my chin)

Update after 3 weeks: I stopped using the product on my forehead. Definitely breaks me out and clogs my pores. I highly recommend their Hyaluronic acid though! Super hydrating and makes my skin supple.
