Dandruff and hairloss tips!

Hey guys, I posted a story asking for advice for my sister’s dandruff and hairloss struggles and I had over 150 messages so thank you so much!

Below are the top recommendations that seem to be most popular/successful:

Dandruff

  1. The Ordinary 7% glycolic acid

  2. Brigeo Scalp Revival Dandruff Relief

  3. Bondi Boost Anti-Dandruff

  4. Ketokonazole [Nizoral]

  5. Selsun (Yellow or Blue bottle)

  6. Stay clear from basic supermarket products that dry the scalp

  7. Take cool/cold showers as opposed to hot showers.

  8. Get a silicone scalp scrubber when shampooing the hair

Hair loss

  1. Rosemary Oil/Water for hair

  2. Castor Oil

  3. Get blood work done for gut/hormones/thyroid

I have also copied and pasted a few messages for those who were interested in the responses.

For those struggling with similar issues, I hope you find what works for you. My sister will report back to see what ends up working for her. She is super thankful and it means so much that you guys took the time to help her.

PRP injections for hair loss

Dermarolling + serum afterwards

I’ve heard that glycolic acid is amazing! There’s a women on TikTok that swears by it! I’ve also heard that letting your hair air dry can cause dandruff, so use a hairdryer from 15cm away on the roots

Don’t know about the dandruff but i use castor oil on scalp and at roots for any hair loss and for hair strnceth it really helps. Typically ill put it on if im wearing a hat that day or right before i workout! Even my hair dresser compliments how healthy my hair is

My derm prescribed me ketokonazole shampoo for my dandruff! It’s a life changer

I use Bondi boost and it has worked wonders! They have a dandruff range but if I was choosing I’d stick to the dandruff shampoo/conditioner and the scalp scrub.  Apparently briogeo is great too but more $$

A scalp scrub definitely!! I’ve used the Frank Body one and it’s gentle while also getting rid of all the dry skin and build up! I have a really sensitive scalp that gets dry and irritated and this gets rid of all my itching and discomfort ❤️

I’ve been using Rosewater on my hair and it’s helped me to add moisture without product buildup on my scalp (which I’d been struggling with). I’ve also been adding Rosehip Oil to thinning spots, heard good things about it. (I’ve been doing it for 2 weeks so results TBD)

@amazinghairsaviour A great page to follow for tips and products!

I use Neutrogenas Tgel range and have a silicon head scrubber. It has helped ! I still have dandruff every now and then but it has helped reduce it for me

A good TCM herbalist. Seriously 🙏🙏

Merz pills do wonders

Tea tree oil shampoo maybe? Or selsun (but yellow bottle)

Also lush’s soak and float as well!!

Body Shop ginger shampoo truly saved my scalp and I use their conditioner only once a week. Helped me with hair growth and dry dandy scalp 👌🏻

Coconut oil!

So I saw your post about your sister’s hair loss and dandruff issue. I have gone through this a lot. The doctor recommended I use Sebizole 2% shampoo for dandruff. I would recommend doing a patch test before though! I would try and use it once a week/ once every two weeks and track progress.

For hair fall I would highly recommend getting blood work done. I had very low iron. After taking supplements this helped majorly. I would also recommend using a gentle scalp brush in the shower whilst shampooing. This helps with blood flow and circulation! Head and shoulders is a very harsh shampoo so I would stop using that and start using something gentler-  a shampoo that doesn’t contain any sulphates and parabens. I am happy to recommend some if you’d like!! Hope this helps 💙💙

Juicy chemistry's chiili hair oil is a savior

I absolutely love the Cult and King hair tonik, that's helped my scalp so much! Also the mineral fusion anti dandruff shampoo works well as an alternative to head and shoulders!

RPR treat my scalp is the beat for dandruff and so gentle can be used everyday!!

I have heard that rosemary oil, boiling rosemary in water and putting it in a spray bottle works really well for hair loss!!! I’ve been wanting to try it myself but I’ve seen it work for others.

Oil masks works really good for the women in my family. once a week just lightly heat up your preferred oil(we mix coconut amla and grape seed but ik castor oil helps with hair growth) and apply it sleep with it and wash it in the morning. but you really have to massage it in the scalp and make circular motions.

Hair shampoo brand - Nak

Hair loss - take collagen, folic acid and vitamin

Aveda purifying scalp cleanser

ethique shampoo bars are a really good, affordable and environmentally friendly alternative. My boyfriend has always suffered from psoriasis on his scalp and has tried everything but nothing helped until i recommended him ethique! You can find them in woolworths now and they would last you a long time. Rosemary and grapeseed oil are the two oils I've heard and seen that have severely helped people with major hair loss. Hope these help :))

Bioderma gel& shampoo

For oily dandruff - briogeo exfoliating shampoo or first aid beauty anti dandruff shampoo are goooood

I’ve been use the body shop ginger shampoo for a while and I noticed my hair is growing so fast. Also there is a brand is call YANAGIYA hair tonic is from Japan which is working for me too. Maybe your sis can try both of them as well. Hope it’s work for her too x

MooGoo Shampoo and conditioner is amazing! I have a super sensitive scalp (dandruff, red, itchy, bumps) and can’t use regular hair products. MooGoo is amazing and my hair is sooo much healthier, shinier and my scalp doesn’t hurt anymore. There’s no silicones, sulphates or other ingredients that will cause irritation

Zinc Shampooo

Hi ! She most likely has seborrheic dermatitis.  It is usually due to stress , hormone and gut problems .

I had it because of taking and stopping the pill. Sadly for her if the hairloss already started she will have to go through a whole cycle before it stops . Which can take approximately 6 month of shedding and then hair will start growing again if the dermatitis is under control .

She definitely needs to follow your food recommendations as much as possible, includes zinc and vitamin d supplements,  Biotin never hurt , and any type of hairloss supplement will help the hair to grow faster afterwards .

As for care I now shampoo my hair every single day because the more oil she gets the more dandruff and the more dandruff the more the hairbulb is not breathing and going through a resting phases then falling.

So everyday shampoo is a must!!! As well as drying your hair with a blowdryer everytime.  On cold air preferably

The most important is drying the scalp because the yeast ...

Korean shampoo hair loss Ryo. Has ginseng and other natural ingredients... I had hair loss but this shampoo reversed it!

Nizoral

Ketoconazole shampoo once every 3 days. “Gugo” organic shampoo in the days in between. Ketoconazole treats the dandruff and the Gugo shampoo is mild enough for daily cleansing use. Condition as needed.

I have the same problem when I use a supermarket shampoo that's dries my scalp. I really recommend The Body Shop's Ginger Scalp Shampoo! After a few washes it fixed the problem- I don't use the Gonger Scalp conditioner and op for a moisturising shea butter one instead (also frm the body shop) but it might be even more effective to use both? Hope this helps your sister!

Hey, any medicated shampoo with ketoconazole and zinc pyrithione is most effective for dandruff. This is when the dandruff is due to excess fungal growth. If it is dry skin, then it will be required to ensure that the scalp is hydrated. I highly recommend a derm visit because it really helped me, i haven't had dandruff in years now!

Don't wash in really hot water, head massage tool and sulfate free shampoo 😊

use this one Biolage Scalp Care Rebalance Oil 30ml

She should go get checked several vitamins!! Im loosing a lot of hair and I’m having issues with dandruff too, saw that I have SIBO (gut issues) and several things like iron are veryyy low.

A good thing is to by a natural shampoo and add 3 drops of tea tree essencial oil and check if it helps

I cant help on the dandruff however i have been getting PRP treatment for my head at hair and skin science and it has made my hair grown back heeeaaapppsss !! I was honestly very skeptical at first also because it’s a lot of money ($2k ish) but my god I do not regret it after seeing results !!

I have seborrheic dermatitis from PCOS and I’ve recently started using OUAI and washing my hair upside down with cold water over the tub! Also don’t let water sit on roots as this irritates my scalp! It’s not perfect but the I have barely any irritation now!

Roche posay anti drandruff cream shampoo its also sulphate free

Briogeo just released a new shampoo that is supposed to be amazing for dandruff! Not 100% sure for hair loss but I think there is a brand called vegamour that has great reviews for it! I’ve also heard red led light scalp devices help with hair loss. I have dandruff too. Tell her she is not alone and she is beautiful regardless! Wishing the best ❤️

Vichy Dercos for dandruff saved my scalp. It was very severe in my case. Doesn't do anything for hair loss tho

1. Wash 3-5 rosemary leaves and boil it.

2. Optional: add 5-10 drops of rosemary essential oil.

3. Put it in a spray bottle. Spray it on the hair mainly focusing on the scalp.

4. Massage the scalp for 2-4 minutes

5. You can leave it in however long you would like.

I personally use it the night before my hair wash day, so i leave it in overnight.

The day of wash day, right before i shower, i oil my scalp and hair. I use the @camelglow hair oil.

1. I use 1 vial for the scalp.

2. Use the dropper to target problem areas. (Half of the vial)

3. After that warm up the rest of the oil with your hands and apply to scalp. (Other half of the vial)

4. Massage scalp for 5-10 minutes.

5. After that i put a second vial on the rest of my hair.

Mandybbeauty - tiktok a great page to follow

It’s pricey, but the Oribe clarifying shampoo and conditioner literally changed my hair. first use and my dandruff was gone! worth the investment for sure, my meds were making my entire body dry up and that stuff saved me

Aveeno Length and Strength! It’s very rich and thick, but my hair loves it!

High dose omega 3s

Silicone scalp brush

And clarifying shampoos with charcoal help so much.

Also hot oil treatments before you even get in the shower for shower day

TS Biotin Shampoo + Cocokind Rosewater + Maya Chia powerFol growth serum

Follow @bondenavant (Amy Chang) she gave amazing recommendations for the hair. I had the same as your sister as start using Briogeo shampoo and hair mask (the gray one it’s fantastic), Rose water after shower and Maya serum for hair loss. Amy explains it better tho 😅

There is this brand called Oribe it is so good! It is expensive but so worth it ! They have a dandruff shampoo it is a pink bottle. Hopefully this helps 💕

The brand brigeo is awesome!! Has helped a lot with my scalp and overall hair health. The bondi boost dandruff line is good too. I also love spraying rose water into my scalp to sooth it. Good quality rose water not the ones with alcohol and perfume through it. Hope this is helpful ❤️

i use nizoral and it works for me! some people use selsun blue which has worked for me in the past but im kinda sketched out about it now since some people report hair loss because of it. when i have flare ups i also increase the frequency of washes & i blow dry my hair immediately after showering. folliculitis scout is also a good website to run the ingredients of ur products through as it tells u which ingredients are more likely to feed the very naturally occurring yeast which normally causes dandruff

Tea tree oil works wonders for dandruff! Alternatively, my grandpa swears by the dandruff cure of rubbing alcohol straight on the scalp lol

try lush bar shampoo

It can be folliculitis, I have this problem but getting better with ketaconazole shampoo from my dermatologist

Ok so! I was in the same predicament. Turns out it wasn’t dandruff at all but DRY SCALP. So the head & shoulders and all the anti dandruff stuff was just drying me out more.My sister bought me this [Divi scalp serum]  and it’s amazing! A bit pricey but you don’t need much and it goes a long way. My scalp is way less flakey and dry!!! Almost gone actually

Hey, Ida from 🇬🇧 Yes, i recommend simone technology (spanish)

https://www.simonehair.com

My hair stylist recommended it! She tested on herself for 8 months and when i saw her recently her hair growth was so visible! Recently i bought a shampoo and hair/scalp trychological scrub/peeling from them. I dont have dandruff anymore as i do the peeling once every 3rd wash. Good luck to your sister finding the right product ☺️

Suds and co shampoo and conditioner bars I swear they’re the best I could find, sustainable, and changed the level of cleanliness I felt after washing my hair!!!

Shea moisture is a really good option! Works especially well for course/curly hair but can work for anyone. They have a lot of different options, but my favorite it the jojoba oil one. It does and a small amount of apple cider vinegar but you can't even tell

Hi there I think I may recommend this Korean brand, unsure if it will work for her. It’s called korean henna hair shampoo and or try using powdered shikakai before shampooing

The Christophe robin scalp scrub is nice and very highly recommended. The scalp is ridiculously intense for me who uses mostly fragrance free things though. But if she can handle the smell of head and shoulders it’ll be fine I think

Aloe Vera! Extract the gel from the leaf and let it set on the scalp and hair for 30 minutes.

I had the same situation and a dermatologist suspected I had seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp. They recommended to use the Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo 2%. You dampen the hair, lather the shampoo onto scalp and let it sit for a few minutes before using another calming shampoo over it.

For the hair loss / thinning, I’m currently trialing Nioxin which actually helps clear buildup on hair also — maybe this can help your sister?I’m similar to you (in that I believe you also have to heal internally) so I make sure to eat lots of leafy greens and take hair/nail/skin vitamins too! Good luck to your sis — it can be so stressful! X

Biotin Supplements

i have struggled w dandruff for so long & recently after cobid, hair loss 🥺 butttt i recently discovered @griffinremedy hair wash goodies + @hinu.co hair oil ~ both are plant based & have been extremely restorative for me 💙🌱🦋also nue cos supa thick serum !!

Rosemary and peppermint oil for hair loss. You can make your own spray at home

Kafir Lime for dandruff. Leave for 15 mins before washing your hair

Get a scalp treatment at a salon.

MooGoo is the best brand!! Please check it out. I have sensitive skin and this brand helped

Its [https://glowid.se/blogs/blogg/dr-ceuracle-scalp-dx-scaling-schampoo] on swedish but its against hairloss, dandruff, itchy scalp. The hair feel smooth afterwards! I have always struggled with dandruff - more or less. Depending if its cold, or if Im stressed. I think it works! They have also a conditioner that I havent tried yet. Once a week I use the ordinarys glycol acid - massaging into the scalp and leave it for 20 minutes before I rinse off. Makes huge different! The hair seems more ”clean” and the dry flakes goes away. :) and the hair looks healthier. 💕

I love the Jason dandruff shampoo for that ! It’s 100% natural ingredients with salicylic acid and sulphur . Smells minty/sulphury but very effective .  I purchase it in the US not sure if you can get it elsewhere
